How Will Iraq End?

This is an interesting analysis in the New York Times. It does a good job of demonstrating why Iraq is such a disaster for us, because all of our options are bad or worse. The only possible hope for President Bush and the Republicans (to snatch "victory" from quagmire) is to have the appearance of pacification in Iraq and then pull out. As I predicted long ago when Iraq then erupts we can throw up our hands and say, "well, the Iraqis are responsible." Here is how the writer of this article puts it: "Erstwhile supporters of the war are already starting to justify this plan by hinting darkly that the Iraqis have to take responsibility for themselves — as if they could be expected to succeed in providing security and basic services when the world’s richest superpower has so abjectly failed."
