I don't always agree with Friedman, but he has an incredible ability to put together disparate events into a whole and then explain them. He is especially brilliant here. What do the proposals by McCain and Clinton to have a summer holiday on the gas tax have to do with supporting authoritarian regimes around the world? Friedman explains quite well. By the way this is another demonstration of both Clinton and McCain's blatant ignorance on economic matters, not to mention pandering to voters.
