Sign of the Times: Demise of Newspapers

It is unbelievable to see the demise of so many newspapers, brought about by rapidly changing technology coupled with the economic slowdown. A truly historic moment, and one with wide-ranging implications. News is increasingly concentrated in the visual media (where sound bites are short and talking heads abound). This will allow whoever seizes control in this country (as we pass to the dictatorship phase) an easy time. Control media and you control the country.

You know dad every time I read your blog I realize where I got this abounding since of pessimism. Now I fully agree that we are headed towards a full fledge dictatorship and that democracy will end with thunderous applause, BUT you oh father of mine are a pessimist.

No. You are so wrong! I am optimistic that we are headed for dictatorship.

Yes, I was bummed to see the RMN go under, I used to love reading it with a cup of coffee while living in Colorado. Now, I'll have to settle for a Government Provided Netbook computer (I'm sure they will provide them free with unemployment benefits) that only allows one government-controlled news-site (edited by a CNN/NBC team no doubt), and no coffee but plenty of free government-provided anti-depressant prescriptions from the all inclusive national health care system. You got to love socialism! As least I won't have to do any real work--Dave

True enough, Dave. That does seem to be where we are headed!
