Latest Press Hysteria: Swine Flu

Are we back to living in the Dark Ages or what? It amazes me that a few people die, the press gets ahold of it and back to the Dark Ages we go!! "Oh my goodness, the world is coming to an end. Everyone, run for your bunkers and don't come out until the dreaded Swine Flu has been eradicated!?!"

Really. It's just astonishing the sort of hysterical superstition that arises at every hint of some sort of physical ailment. How many people have died in car accidents since the swine flu began? How many people have been killed in drug violence in Mexico? How many have died of drug overdoses? Yeah, you don't know, because the press isn't hysterical about it. We may know a lot about science, but we're just as fearful of the most minor illnesses as our medieval ancestors were. Unbelievable. Oh, did I mention I'm heading for Mexico? I'd better wear a gas mask so I don't catch the Swine Flu!!
