Sad and stupid: Whoopi Goldberg: It wasn't rape, rape. Oh, sorry, my bad, I didn't know that there was a rape that was OK and a rape that was bad. Thanks for filling me in, Whoopi.
Sad and appalling: Debra Winger: (L. A. Times quote) "the whole art world suffers" in such arrests. I am so sorry that the whole art world has to suffer because Mr. Polanski was arrested for fleeing sentencing. Oops, I forgot that Hollywood artists don't have to adhere to the same legal code as the rest of us. Thanks for pointing that out for me, Debra.
No comment: Woody Allen (famous Hollywood writer and director) signed a petition for Mr. Polanski's immediate release. This is the guy who dumped his girlfriend (Mia Farrow) for her daughter. His defense: The heart wants what it wants. Woody Allen is a good guy to go to for instruction on morality.
Sad, appalling, and downright laughable: Harvey Weinstein, erstwhile Hollywood director and producer (not to mention arbiter of all things moral): "Hollywood has the best moral compass, because it has compassion," Weinstein said. "We were the people who did the fundraising telethon for the victims of 9/11. We were there for the victims of Katrina and any world catastrophe."
Wow! Thank you so much for cluing me in, Mr. Weinstein, and I thought Hollywood was only a cesspool. Little did I know.

yes, it's a sad world we live in. What can we do but laugh for now and then.
True enough. It's so stupid and irrational that if you're not laughing, then you're going to cry.
