The Best of Times/The Worst of Times...No, Just the Worst

A fascinating article on the state of the broader church (Catholic, Episcopalian, Protestant). Any time you have Richard Dawkins saying something positive about the church, you know you are reading an interesting piece.

Dawkins: There are no Christians, as far as I know, blowing up buildings. I am not aware of any Christian suicide bombers. I am not aware of any major Christian denomination that believes the penalty for apostasy is death. I have mixed feelings about the decline of Christianity, in so far as Christianity might be a bulwark against something worse.

Yes, Richard, if you could only live in a world without the influence of Christianity.

I look at these things as in some sense good in that abusing children and ordaining homosexuals are caricatures of "religion." As followers of Christ we follow Christ, not the Catholic church or the Episcopalian church. When we see denominations acting in a manner which dishonors Christ we call them out for it.
