Why Iraq is a Tar Baby (Continued)

Senator Chuck Hagel writes in the Sunday Washington Post that the U.S. needs to withdraw from Iraq. I respect Chuck Hagel because he served in Vietnam, which is more than can be said for most of those who got us into this war of choice including Dick Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz, and Douglas Feith. Of course President Bush will do no such thing because it would be admitting to the families of the 3000 soldiers killed there that they died in vain in a war that the United States chose to start. Thus we are ensnared by the Tar-Baby that is Iraq. As I've thought all along, it is a strategic blunder of historic consequences.

I had no clue uncle John even had a blog! What a find!

The US needs to rethink its foreign policy and shift away from the Samuel Huntignton's myth of a "Clash of Civilizations" wherein the Muslim world poses the number one threat to United States hegemony. In reality, the threat posed by certain radical strains in the Muslim world is, although very real, counterbalanced by the many internal rifts found in this particular "cultural region" as Huntington would call it. Evidence of these regional tensions was recently seen in the anti-Syrian backlash in Lebanon caused by the murder of minister Pierre Gemayel, as well as the ongoing civil strife between Sunni's and Shi'ites in Iraq.

Creating an American "beachhead" in a region that was already on the verge of internal collapse was a dangerous and useless policy move directly taken from the rather simplistic neoconservative ideology.

Crikey. Was the earlier post from the guy who lived with us and graduated from LHS? Or have aliens taken over his body? I knew you made the Deans list, but I thought they were kidding! Not really, I always knew you were this smart, just a little...uh, shall we say, unfocused!

John has made great strides in school, for which I am grateful. However, this does not mean he is "re-focused" in all areas of his life, most notably his sleeping patters.

Warmest Regards,

Joyce Murphy

Sleeping patterns? Yes, well, the lad CAN sleep, I will give that to him! It WOULD be nice if he could manage to sleep when everyone else does. Isn't he pretty much going to sleep when Pat gets up? Its like the Montreal Murfs got it covered 24/7!
