Here is an interesting piece in the New York Times on Badger's old division and the difficulty that all Army units are having sustaining readiness in the current environment. Whatever else may happen in Iraq, the Army is being seriously weakened by it. It would be interesting to see what would happen if we had a true emergency somewhere else in the world.

Ha ha, I like the part where they talk about equipment shortages. When our guys went to Iraq I can tell you of more than a handful who didn't even have weapons. When they asked what they were supposed to do when they arrived in Iraq they're only answer from commanders was "Hopefully there will be a weapon over there for you." After talking to them, some still don't have weapons. What do these guys do you ask? They wait until someone comes off a mission and grab theirs. M4's aren't accurate as is and when you throw in the fact that it's not zeroed to a new user, ahhh not good things. One of my buddies said he'd be better off with what he called a "David Sling"
