100 Million 'Missing' Girls

Jeff Jacobey writes in the Boston Globe about the global war on women via selective birth, a tragedy brought about by the dark side of modern science. Ultrasound allows one to find out the babies gender before it is born, which also allows one to abort a female baby if she is not wanted. This is beginning to skew the numbers of men to women in some areas of China by as much as 124 to 100. What does one do with a huge population of men with no prospects for marriage? This does not bode well for the future.

The Chinese writer Xinran Xue writes in a new book, “Message from an Unkown Chinese Mother,’’ about visiting a peasant family in Shandong while the mother is giving birth. The baby turns out to be a girl, and Xinran hears a man’s voice mutter: “Useless thing!’’ To her horror, the “useless thing’’ is thrown into a pail of slops to be drowned.

That’s a living child,’’ I said in a shaking voice, pointing at the slops pail.

“It’s not a child,’’ she corrected me. “It’s a girl baby, and we can’t keep it. Around these parts, you can’t get by without a son. Girl babies don’t count.’’

Graham Staines and Sons 10th Anniversary

Graham Staines and his two sons were martyred ten years ago, tomorrow. Persecution of Christians in the Indian state of Orissa seems to have gotten worse since then. Pray for India. Pray for the persecuted church.

His wife, commenting on the current persecution and martyrdom of some believers says:

"These sisters of mine in Kandhamal who have sacrificed their husbands
for the sake of Christ - I tell them be strong, stay strong, and Christ will be
your support, your companion, your guide and your strength. When God is working with us, nothing can be against us. I am in prayerful solidarity with them, I share their sufferings and I want to encourage them with hope. It is painful and sad but importantly - it is not how we live, but what matters is ‘whether we are in the will of God’. Support them with your solidarity and prayers."

India to US: Go On a Diet!

India smacks down the notion (set forth by President Bush and Secretary Rice) that food prices are increasing because of the rising middle class in India!?! Whoever fed this information to them did a great disservice because it makes them both look like idiots. From the article:

"George Bush has never been known for his knowledge of economics," Jairam Ramesh, the minister of state for commerce, told The Press Trust of India after Bush's remarks, which he said proved again how "comprehensively wrong" Bush is.

"To say that demand for food in India is causing increase in global food prices is completely wrong," Ramesh said.

Subsidies to Western farmers have undercut agricultural production in fertile areas of Africa for decades, Kamal Nath, India's minister for commerce and industry, said by telephone. Meanwhile, he added, Americans waste more food than people in many other countries, in part because they buy in such large quantities.
