China Flexes Its Muscles

The Chinese have successfully tested an anti-satellite missile. What drives me crazy about this article is the blatant inconsistency of US policy here. In August President Bush implemented a new space policy, in the process refusing to negotiate on de-militarizing space because America needed "freedom of action in space." Well and good, point granted. However, now that the Chinese are militarizing space, the US response, as quoted in the NY Times is, "China’s development and testing of such weapons is inconsistent with the spirit of cooperation that both countries aspire to in the civil space area.” Can anyone say, "hypocrisy?"
